Talk
A private chat for people you actually know. Direct messages, group rooms, photos, video, voice notes, GIFs and every emoji — in your browser, and installable to your desktop.
Continue with GoogleAccess is by invitation. Sign in with Google — if your address is already on the guest list, your account is created on the spot. If it is not, ask an admin to add you and then sign in again.
What is inside
Talk is a web-based messaging app. Sign in with your Google account and chat with the people you have been invited to talk with — one to one or in groups — using text, emoji, GIFs, photos, video and voice messages. It runs in any modern browser and can be installed to your desktop or home screen.
One-to-one conversations that stay between the two of you.
Create a room and drag people in. Add more whenever you like.
All 1,900+ emoji with search and skin tones, and a Giphy picker built in.
Drag, paste or pick. Videos play right in the conversation.
Tap to record, tap again to send. No app required.
Tag someone in a room and they get pinged — even if they muted it.
Banner alerts plus a badge on the icon, even when the tab is closed.
If a message sits unanswered for a couple of hours, we email you a reminder.
Why Talk asks for your Google Account
Talk has no passwords. Signing in with Google is the only way in, and we keep what we ask for to the absolute minimum.
- What we request
- Your email address only, through the standard “openid” and “email” scopes. Nothing else.
- Why we need it
- To identify who you are, to check your address against the invite list, to create your account on first sign-in, and to address the reminder emails Talk sends when a message goes unanswered.
- What we never request
- Your name, profile photo, contacts, calendar, Drive files, or any other Google data. Talk has no access to them and cannot read them.
- How it is stored and shared
- Your email address is stored on our own server so we can recognise you on your next visit. It is never sold, rented, or shared with advertisers, and it is not used for anything other than running Talk.
Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
About your privacy
We ask Google for your email address and nothing else. Messages, filenames and uploaded files are encrypted with AES-256 before they touch the disk, and everything travels over HTTPS. To be straight with you: this is encryption at rest, not end-to-end encryption — the server holds the key, so an administrator is technically able to read messages. It protects you against a stolen database, not against the operator.
